About the cemetery
The Sant Sebastià Cemetery is undeniably a gem of architecture, sculpture, and funerary art from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This is largely due to the contributions of wealthy bourgeois families who rose in social and economic status during that period. Individuals such as Alejo Vidal Cuadras, Jaume Brassó, and Manel Robert Aldrofeu returned from America with great wealth and are responsible for leaving behind a cemetery adorned with beautiful mausoleums and sculptures. Some of these pieces of art were crafted by the finest artists of the time, such as Antoni Cartró, Josep Llimona, Enric Sagnier, Pere Jou, and Manel Fluxà, among others.
However, because the cemetery can no longer expand horizontally, the residents of Sitges now have access to a more modern cemetery on the outskirts of town, the Les Pruelles Cemetery.
