"Spirito" is an Italian word that can have several meanings: spectrum, shade or joke.
The guided tour in the Monumental Cemetery of Turin will take the visitors through various areas, including boulevards and arcades, from classic to modern. We will visit: the primitive Course (Half Moons, historic area), fourth and fifth ampliation, sixth ampliation (Temple Crematorium) and part of the underground.
We will observe the architectural evolution of the newsstands and funerary development in various styles: neoclassical, Art Nouveau, Eclectic, rationalist and contemporary arts.
The funerary symbolism will be seen and interpreted through sculptures, bas-reliefs and mosaics of glass, wood and bronze, made by the brilliant masters of '800 and' 900, as Calandra, Reduzzi, Della Vedova, Ruby, Casanova, Betta, Canonica, Bistolfi, Ginotti.
A quick visit will also be made to some of the tombs of known personalities who lived and worked in Turin, such as Silvio Pellico, Edmondo De Amicis, Erminio Macario, Tamagno, etc. Just as quick visit at the entrance of the underground.
The tour will always be conducted in an informal and comprehensive way, not using a technical and academic language.
The tour in the new area will analyze the funerary sculptures and modern art decoration interpreted by great artists: Casorati, Mastroianni, Chessa, from Milan, Cherchi, Soffiantino, Mollino, Chiss, etc. The sepulchral art symbology through cubism, abstraction, informal and conceptualism on newsstands and tombs from the imaginative and unusual architecture rationalist and contemporary style in the area of the new Monumental.
