Photoceramics: An Unsuspected European Cultural Heritage

Piazzale Cimitero Monumentale, Milano, MI, Italia  24/11/2018, Milan

The Friends of the Monumentale Cemetery of Milan focused on photoceramics, a significant yet often neglected form of funerary art.

Photoceramics was born in France in 1854 and quickly spread all over Europe as a simple but notable way to portray the dead on their tombs.

Starting from the paper presented at ASCE Conference and Annual General Meeting in Innsbruck last September, a conference took place on the cross-cultural dimension od memorial portraiture and was followed by a guided walk to some of the most meaningful examples of photocheramics to be found at the Monumentale Cemetery.
